SINGAPORE, April 17 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Puregold, a leading hypermarket operator in the Philippines, is the first retailer in the country to begin installing TPLinux software across its point of sale (POS) and store server network. Puregold has ordered 2100 licenses from Wincor Nixdorf that will encompass its complete hypermarket network -- a total of 36 stores in the capital Manila and surrounding provinces. The retailer's goal is to reduce its overall operating costs, improve IT performance through software standardization, and prevent virus attacks through an open source environment.
Puregold will also roll out TPLinux as part of its new store openings in the future. TPLinux has the capability to run on other vendors' hardware as well as Wincor Nixdorf's own systems.
With the TPLinux solution platform, Puregold was looking for reliable and stable software solution which was able to support its heterogeneous IT infrastructure and systems within its existing outlets and for potential future new store openings.
"TPLinux runs on open source and so we wanted to cut the cost of buying anti-virus licenses and save on the cost of the license of Windows per POS," said Ruel Magat, Puregold's IT Manager. "We needed a reliable and flexible software platform to manage the average 3,000 to 5,000 customers that visit any given store on a daily basis," he added.
Puregold has a philosophy of serving consumers with effective customer service programmes and competitive, flexible price schemes. So the company also needed an attractive promotion option -- available with TPLinux - to complement its creative and competitive price promotions.
"The TPLinux promotion engine provides a variety of discount methods enabling retailers to pursue a differentiated policy when it comes to terms and conditions, and to set up selective, flexible promotions that are identified automatically at the POS," said Christian Charlton, Wincor Nixdorf's Asia Pacific Head of Retail Solutions.
"All the benefits of TPLinux, such as standardization, openness, modularity and internationality, help to reduce your total cost of ownership. After all, a standard solution such as TPLinux is significantly less expensive than a custom software solution," said Andrew Phay, Wincor Nixdorf's Asia Pacific Vice President and Head of Retail.
